Static Generator

Draw a spectrogram and hear it. The painted canvas is treated as a time-frequency map and resynthesised by inverse FFT with random phase - which is precisely what noise is, a shaped spectrum with no phase coherence. Raising the coherence control turns the same picture from static into tones.

Brushes include soft and hard deposits, spray, full-spectrum bands and harmonic combs, and text can be exposed directly into the spectrum so a word becomes the literal shape of the noise: visible in any spectrogram, audible only as a shaped rasp.

This is an instrument and a sound tool, provided for entertainment and experiment. It describes what it measures and does not identify the cause of anything it shows.
