A 1970s television set whose channels are rooms. Footsteps, knocks, door creaks, drags, whispers and breaths are synthesised from oscillators and filtered noise - never sampled, so they never repeat - and placed around your head with HRTF binaural panning inside a procedurally generated room reverb.
Turning the dial changes the room, its dimensions and its reverb, hidden behind a burst of static. You can turn your head by dragging the screen. Headphones are strongly recommended: binaural direction cues collapse on speakers.
Eight channels cover a hallway, an upper landing, a cellar, an empty room, close quarters, a stairwell and the far side of a door. Each carries its own dimensions, reverb character and set of likely events, and the activity control changes how often the room does something without turning it into a drum machine.
This is an instrument and a sound tool, provided for entertainment and experiment. It describes what it measures and does not identify the cause of anything it shows.
