Ghost Com

A handheld ghost meter built on the Ghost Box engine: one large analogue needle, an audio trace and a session log, with only the controls a handheld would carry. In Scan mode the needle follows a simulated AM, FM or shortwave sweep; in Listen mode it follows your microphone; Session runs both.

The needle is a measure of audio activity, modelled as a spring-mass-damper so it moves like a real meter. It does not read the magnetometer and does not measure electromagnetic fields - for that, use Ghost Com II or the EMF Meter.

How to use Ghost Com

1. Put on headphones and press Power on.
2. Pick a band — AM, FM, SW or RND — and a mode: Scan sweeps the simulated receiver, Listen drives the needle from your microphone, and Session does both.
3. Set Signal for how often stations break through, Noise for the static level and Sens for how easily an event is logged.
4. Start a new session. The needle and audio trace follow the activity, and detected events are logged with a timestamp.
5. Add markers with a note when something happens, then end the session and export the log as JSON. You can also record and download the audio.

Tips

• If you want a reading from your phone’s magnetic sensor, use Ghost Com II or the EMF Meter. Ghost Com’s needle follows audio, not the magnetic field.
• Listen mode makes the needle a sound-level meter for the room — useful for seeing how much an ordinary noise moves it.

What does the Ghost Com needle measure?

Audio activity. In Scan mode it follows the simulated receiver; in Listen mode it follows your microphone. It does not measure electromagnetic fields, and the start screen says so.

How is Ghost Com different from Ghost Box?

They share the same engine. Ghost Box is a frequency-first radio console with every control exposed; Ghost Com puts one large analogue meter in front of you and keeps only the essential controls, like a handheld unit.

How is it different from Ghost Com II?

Ghost Com II is the bench version and reads your device’s magnetometer, showing the field on three axes in microtesla. Ghost Com is the handheld audio meter.

Is my microphone recorded or uploaded?

Microphone audio is analysed on your device and only recorded if you press record. Nothing is uploaded.

This is an instrument and a sound tool, provided for entertainment and experiment. It describes what it measures and does not identify the cause of anything it shows.
